Defined as a ‘x-ray of the needs and desires of its inhabitants’, PH Mazatlán is a modern penthouse overlooking Condesa’s lively Reforma Avenue Mexico City. Estudio MERO designs this residence hosting a small family in an open space that internally translates the international style exterior architecture of the condominium created by Boris Albin. The design team transforms the space in a flexible home defined by open interiors, rectilinear floors including large glass and tubular steel finishes, minimalist ornaments and iconic furnishings and décor.

a synergy between modern and industrial elements

In a continuation of the rectilinear and simplistic design of the exterior that reflects the movement of international style, the flexible interior features minimalist rectangular elements, modern large glass walls and industrial steel embellishments. Estudio MERO instills a synergistic dialogue between the furniture, the woodwork and the cladding, with the steel and glass finishes of the walls together with the industrial multi-panel of the ceiling, expressing an unfolded reconciliation between space and habitability.

By expanding the original architectural program to integrate the resident’s flexible home coexistence, Estudio MERO generates several common environments created within the new open space, including spaces for reading, studying and working, and for cooking, eating and relaxing. The design studio it also creates two bedrooms each with their own added bathroom to maintain privacy. Much of the owner’s art, furnishings and furnishings have also been preserved, arranged throughout the house to exude a sense of personal warmth and character. In addition, several bespoke bookcases have been designed to house the client’s vast collection, positioned along the access corridor and leading to the living space, while a sculpture created by Adán Paredes is suspended from the ceiling, generating an intricate series of shadows. .

integrating natural micro-landscapes into the urban landscape

Estudio MERO completed the project in 2021, with a conscious approach guided by the circumstances of the pandemic. Thus, cross ventilation, a double-height interior and a large terrace overlooking Reforma Avenue become the most important features of the penthouse. Here, the distinct landscape design frames PH Mazatlán’s glass and concrete exterior and shields it from the heat. Adorned with lush greenery, the collection of rosemary, fescue, olive, juniper, ayube, sage and santolina trees lining the porch emulate the rich foliage of the forests and create a sense of unity with nature and the Mexican cityscape beyond. there.
