Paul Pogba could return from injury sooner than expected. The French midfielder could return to training with Juventus within next week according to L’Equipe. After returning to Juventus from Manchester United over the summer, Pogba has yet to make an appearance for the club this season due to a knee injury that may have seen him miss the World Cup for Francebut things could improve for club and country.
Pogba is not only a fundamental man for France, but he also desperately needs Juventus. The team will need help to qualify for the Champions League round of 16, they follow both Benfica and PSG in their group and coach Max Allegri can’t get enough of his attack or defense. Even the fights at Juventus are not limited to the European game. The team is currently eighth in Serie A, eight points from a place in the Champions League, so putting a player of Pogba’s quality into matches will go a long way in helping Allegri and the team change that.
Despite not playing consistently for Manchester United, there’s no denying Pogba’s impact when he’s on the pitch. Pogba scored one goal and nine assists in around 1400 Premier League minutes last season. In Serie A, Filip Kostic is the only Juventus player with more than one assist, and he has only two. The attack is stale and too predictable and Pogba’s creativity could change that. Juventus will have to do things calmly with the midfielder when he comes back, but every minute he can give him would be a good boost.
Allegri won’t be the only coach to watch Pogba’s fitness as Didier Deschamps also needs Pogba for France’s midfield. N’Golo Kante is now a doubt for the World Cup after, an injury that could reportedly put him aside for three months. I Bleus have only won one of their last six games as Deschamps tried to find the right balance to ignite his squad. Realistically, only so much can be reaped from Nations League matches that France have struggled in and some degree of player rotation has been required due to how many minutes football players are recording this season. But these challenges of winning with tired legs will also be present at the World Cup.
A relatively fresh Pogba could be a game changer if he’s healthy enough to contribute. A healthy Pogba could act as a bridge between his World Cup-winning midfield partners from the latest generation of French talent such as Blaise Matuidi and Kante and a new generation Qatar. Eduardo Camivinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni are incredibly talented young midfielders who are both thriving at Real Madrid but have a talented player with more experience alongside them, serving in a role as Luca Modric And Toni Kroos doing that club level will help them elevate them.
Pogba will have to prove he is healthy to contribute to the club and the nation, but if he can, there is certainly an important role for him. It is hoped that only the hope of a return of Pogba will be enough to ignite Juventus in the short term with a long-term perspective to help France.
