neutral earth tones give new life to the lohr home
20Diezz Arquitectos retains a large part of the original structure which dates back to the end of the 19th centuryth-century, exploring a harmonious relationship between traditional and contemporary. Revive the historic structure the architects they introduce elements both sensitive to the original architectural language, and with a minimalist and contemporary touch. Pure expressions of raw materials and neutral earth tones are present through the refined patchwork, the burnished white concrete, the stone walls extracted from the site, the bespoke paste floors designed especially for Casa Lohr and a ceiling based on apparent joists and voussoirs. which exhibit the traditional construction method.
A new architectural program is generated, which reacts to the condition of the house, its location and the needs of its inhabitants. Although most of the original floor plan has been retained, 20Diezz transforms the old rear vestibular spaces into bedrooms. Upon entering the house, a definitive axis guides visitors and allows the visualization of the different historical phases of the space. A series of semicircular arched openings carved into the walls frame each space and express a coherent visual language. Two corridors run through the residence, housing the main atrium, the secondary bedroom and the open plan common area with living room, dining room and kitchen. Connected to the kitchen, an outdoor covered terrace houses the heart of the project: the ruins of a historic stone masonry wall. The structure articulates the space, framing with it a contained central patio, a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi, inviting meditation and dialogue with nature.
